The kid has valid points from start to finish. The NBA should be doing everything possible for their fans - especially this season - and the All Star Weekend festivities are solely for the fans. Certain players making selfish and greedy decisions not to participate only hurts the fans who ultimately are the ones dishing out bucks to pay the salaries. Without the fans, there could be no pro sports. Some athletes get that, others choose not to.

Full of fast moving action, the all star game sees very little in the way of defensive strategy or hitting and a lot of tic-tac-toe passing plays that will leave you in amazement that they guys can do stuff this complicated, this fast, this well timed and all while everyone is on ice skates! The skill level of these athletes really shines in the NHL All Star events and that is one reason that year after year, city after city the NHL All Star Game is a giant success.

Now fans are taking it to an even higher level by saying he should be in the NBA All Star Game or the Rookie Game or the Skills Competition/Three Point Shootout in Orlando next weekend.

Personally I think that is rushing things quite a bit. There is no doubt this kid has really taken the league by storm and captured the heart of New Yorkers similar to how Victor Cruz has done with the New York Giants. And once you are the darling of the NY media, you are going to be mentioned and seen EVERYWHERE.

However the sports purist in me feels the All Star Game is for legit all stars, not someone who could be a flash in the pan. Let Lin prove it over the course of a full NBA season and earn his stripes before just suddenly declaring him one of the best point guards in the league. It has been less than 10 games, afterall.

I don’t mean to take away from his outstanding performances at all but every player gets on a hot streak, the All Stars are the ones who maintain that level night in and night out year after year. He’s good, he just has to keep it going.
