Donald Trump Says He Won’t Attend Super Bowl LX, Criticizes Bad Bunny and Green Day
In a move that’s sure to spark conversation, former U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed in a recent interview that he will not attend Super Bowl LX on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California — and used the opportunity to sharply criticize the event’s musical lineup.
Speaking to The New York Post, Trump said the decision was mostly due to the distance of the event, which he described as “just too far away,” but also did not hold back on expressing his disapproval of the NFL’s choice of entertainment.
“I’m anti-them,” Trump said of Bad Bunny and Green Day, calling their selection a “terrible choice” that “just sows hatred.”
‘Too Far Away,’ but Also ‘Anti-Them’
Trump, who made history by becoming the first sitting U.S. president to attend a Super Bowl last year in New Orleans, said the geographic distance of this year’s game played a major role in his choice to skip it, although his comments quickly turned to the performers.
While insisting that travel logistics were his primary reason for staying away, Trump didn’t mince words about his views on the entertainment lineup. He took particular aim at Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican artist slated to headline the halftime show and Green Day, who are scheduled to perform earlier in the broadcast.
Controversial Lineup Draws Backlash
Bad Bunny and Green Day have both been outspoken critics of Trump in the past. Green Day’s music, known for its political commentary, and Bad Bunny’s socially conscious work have each drawn attention in recent years and in response, Trump stated plainly that he disagrees with their messages and perspectives.
Despite his criticism, Trump said the performers weren’t the reason he was skipping Super Bowl LX, stressing the cross-country travel was the main factor in his decision.
A Shift from Last Year
Last year, Trump attended the Super Bowl in New Orleans, where he was part of the pre-game festivities and drew significant attention from fans and media alike. His absence from this year’s game marks a notable shift, particularly given how politically charged the halftime and pre-game entertainment decisions have become.
Super Bowl LX Set for Feb. 8
Super Bowl LX will take place on February 8 in Santa Clara, California, and is expected to be among the most-watched broadcasts of the year. While Trump won’t be in attendance, the game and its star-studded entertainment lineup are already drawing significant media coverage, both for the NFL’s choices and the reactions they’ve inspired.
