AP Poll: Arizona Remains Unanimous No. 1; Michigan Moves to No. 2 After Big Week

The latest Associated Press Top 25 men’s college basketball poll saw the Arizona Wildcats hold firm at No. 1, while the Michigan Wolverines jumped to No. 2, overtaking the UConn Huskies following key wins over Nebraska and Michigan State. 

Arizona Still at the Top

The Arizona Wildcats continued their dominant run this season, maintaining their position as the unanimous No. 1 team in the country. With a perfect 22-0 record, Arizona has earned all 59 first-place votes from the national media panel that compiles the weekly poll, a mark of consistency and strength under coach Tommy Lloyd. 

Coach Lloyd highlighted the importance of consistency, saying that the Wildcats’ steady play has been a major factor in their undefeated start. As the team prepares for a stretch of challenging matchups, the emphasis remains on maintaining momentum and focus. 

Michigan Climbs to No. 2

The Michigan Wolverines made a significant jump this week, climbing to No. 2 after wins over Nebraska and rival Michigan State. The victories helped Michigan leapfrog UConn in the rankings and solidify its position as one of the nation’s premier contenders. 

Michigan’s strong defensive performances and balanced scoring were key in their climb up the poll, and the Wolverines now look to build on their success as conference play heats up. 

UConn, Duke and Illinois Round Out Top Five

Following Michigan’s surge, the UConn Huskies slipped down to No. 3, while Duke and Illinois remained steady in the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively. These programs have continued to deliver high-level basketball this season, despite facing stiff competition across the country. 

More Poll Highlights

• Gonzaga moved up to No. 6, while Iowa State and Houston each climbed spots in this week’s rankings.
• The Nebraska Cornhuskers, after recent losses, dropped to No. 9, highlighting the volatility of college hoops late in the season.
• Kansas, Purdue, and other traditional powers also filled out the Top 25, showcasing the depth of talent across Division I men’s basketball. 

Only Arizona and Miami (Ohio) remain unbeaten in Division I play, underscoring just how rare undefeated seasons have become deep into conference action.
