Record-Breaking Auction: Jutta Leerdam’s Olympic Race Suit Fetches Six-Figure Sum After Viral Moment

The gold-medal winning speed skating suit worn by Dutch Olympic star Jutta Leerdam at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics has sold for a staggering price at auction, setting a new benchmark for Olympic memorabilia and raising funds for youth sports.

The suit, worn by Leerdam when she captured gold in the women’s 1,000-metre race and silver in the 500-metre event fetched €195,000 (about $228,000 USD) from a competitive bidding war on the MatchWornShirt platform.

From Olympic Glory to Record Auction Price

Leerdam, a speed skating standout from the Netherlands, became one of the most talked-about athletes of the 2026 Winter Games in Milan, breaking an Olympic record with her 1,000-m victory and showcasing her emotional celebration that captured global attention.

Her bright orange race suit signed by the Olympic champion was part of a larger collection of items auctioned by the Dutch Olympic Committee to benefit local sports clubs in the athlete’s homeland.

According to reports, bidding on the suit remained modest for much of the week but exploded in the final hour, jumping from under €10,000 to the eventual winning total as two bidders battled for the iconic garment.

Supporting the Next Generation

Most of the proceeds from the auction will go to IJsvereniging Pijnacker, the skating club where Leerdam first learned to skate as a child. Club officials expressed surprise and gratitude at the result, noting that the funds will provide meaningful support for youth development programs.

“It’s incredible,” said a club representative, explaining that they will consult with Leerdam’s family and Olympic officials on the best way to invest the money.

In total, memorabilia from Dutch Olympians at the Games raised more than €275,000 with Leerdam’s suit alone leading the way.

A Cultural Moment Beyond Sport

The suit’s auction success underscores how Leerdam’s rise at these Olympics resonated beyond athletic achievement. Her emotional celebrations and compelling backstory including her engagement to influencer and professional boxer Jake Paul, helped draw attention to her performances and elevate interest in Olympic memorabilia.

While there has been some internet chatter about viral moments from the Games, experts note that the appeal of historic Olympic gear comes largely from fans’ desire to own a piece of sporting history.

Why This Matters

  • The €195,000 price tag is one of the highest ever paid for Winter Olympics memorabilia.
  • Funds from the sale will directly benefit youth skaters in the Netherlands.
  • Leerdam’s performance and public profile helped drive global interest in Olympic speed skating.

For fans of the Winter Games, this auction highlights how iconic moments and the gear worn during them, can take on new value long after the competition ends.
